Our Merlin grid resistors have been designed for high current application, as test loads, earthing resistors and motor control resistors in cranes, lifts, machinery, vehicles etc., where a vibration-proof construction is required. Cast from constant composition stainless steel, these grids are flexible, corrosion resistant and available in 5 standard sizes. Resistance values, weight and dimensions are listed below. Cast stainless steel collars, 10mm thick, are also available to increase the spacing between assembled grids.
Grids can be banked together via the three mounting eyes, along mica insulated rods, to offer virtually unlimited range of resistance and wattage values. Units may be supplied loose or pre-assembled into a resistance bank terminated with copper bus-bars. Assemblies can be supplied ready for mounting or mounted in a weather-proof cubicle built to customer requirements. Forces air cooling and other special features can be accommodated.
The next table shows approximate surface temperature rise with constant load applied to an assembly of grids standing in free air. Short term loads can be several hundred percent greater, depending on "on/off" time cycle, e.g Type SMRC can handle up to 1000 amps. Details of this information is available on request.
